Wushu's Baylon leads PSA monthly achievers for April
Carlos Baylon Jr. of wushu was named the Philippine Sportswriters Association's (PSA) top performer for April.
Baylon, a 27-year-old who has been with the national team for 11 years, won a gold medal in the men's 56kg class at the IWUF 10th Sanda World Cup in Jiangyin, China.
He defeated Uzbekistan's Saydullo Abdurashitov in the finals and previously beat Macau's Hio Lam Ku in the semifinals.
Baylon expressed his happiness at winning the World Cup after many years of playing.
Other monthly achievers recognized by the PSA include Sydney Sy Tancontian of sambo, Allain Ganapin of para taekwondo, and the Philippine surfing and kickboxing teams.
Sy Tancontian also secured a gold medal in the women's +80kg division at the Asia and Oceania Sambo Championships in Uzbekistan, defeating Mongolia's Ser-Ochir Buyanzaya.
