Carlo Paalam, 2 others out of World Boxing Championships

Filipino Olympic silver medalist Carlo Paalam was eliminated from the World Boxing Championships after a 4-1 loss to Junior Alcantara Reyes in the round-of-32 men's 55kg division.

Paalam struggled in the first round, improved in the second, but his desperate third-round attack was not enough to secure a victory.

Despite a dominant performance in his first-round match, Paalam only won one judge's scorecard in his bout against Reyes.

Two other Filipino boxers, Mark Ashley Fajardo and Junmilardo Ogayre, were also eliminated from the tournament.

Fajardo lost to Ukraine's Evin Aliiev, 5-0, in the men's 65kg category.

Ogayre was defeated by Kazakhstan's Biibars Zhexen in the men's 60kg division.

There are three remaining Filipino boxers in the competition: Riza Pasuit in the women's 60kg and Jay Bryan Baricuatro in the men's 50kg, who will compete on Tuesday night, and another competitor in the men's 70kg category.
