Cargo truck driver dies as vehicle explodes in Atimonan, Quezon

A 67-year-old cargo truck driver, identified only as Rolando, died after his truck caught fire and exploded in Atimonan, Quezon.

The incident occurred early Monday morning on a curved downhill portion of Maharlika Highway in Barangay Malinao Ilaya.

Police reported that the truck encountered mechanical failure while descending, causing the driver to lose control.

The vehicle first hit a mud pile, then a parked truck, before toppling over and igniting.

The explosion and subsequent fire also set ablaze two passing tricycles, injuring several passengers, including three minors.

Injured tricycle drivers Meriel and Edwin, along with passengers Amethys, Jamela, and Angel, were taken to Doña Martha Hospital for treatment.
