Caraga reports 30 new Covid-19 cases, active count at 274

The Caraga region has reported 30 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total active cases to 274 and the overall number of infections to 705.

Of the new infections, 28 were in Butuan City, one in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, and one in Cabadbaran City.

The new cases include local transmissions, close contacts, health workers, a non-medical front-liner, and a locally-stranded individual.

The youngest new case is two years old and the oldest is 60, with 25 asymptomatic cases and five showing mild symptoms.

Health officials are recommending a zonal containment strategy, or granular lockdown, for areas in Butuan City with high Covid-19 incidence.

Ten barangays in Butuan City have been identified as having the highest numbers of active cases.

The Butuan City government is procuring 30,000 testing kits to last until December and is considering testing kits from the University of the Philippines.

Butuan City Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada urged residents to cooperate with the zonal containment strategy, emphasizing that ending the health crisis requires a community-wide effort.
