Canlaon City on high alert for landslides, mudflows amid heavy rains

Canlaon City in Negros Oriental is on high alert for potential landslides and mudflows due to continuous heavy rainfall and weather disturbances.

Emergency response units and local government offices are actively monitoring the weather to ensure resident safety.

This increased vigilance follows a recent landslide in Barangay Masulog, triggered by heavy rains over the weekend.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is prepared to respond immediately, particularly in areas prone to landslides and lahar flow.

Despite a recent decrease in Mt. Kanlaon's unrest, the accumulation of volcanic sediments on its slopes poses a risk of lahar flow if dislodged by heavy downpours.

A lahar flow was also reported in Biak-na-Bato, La Castellana, Negros Occidental during the same weekend.

Currently, the waters at Padudusan Falls-Natural Waterslide in Canlaon City remain clear, unlike during the peak of volcanic activity when it was covered in lahar flow.
