Caap bans flights near 4 PH volcanoes due to volcanic activity

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) has imposed a flight ban near Mayon, Bulusan, Kanlaon, and Taal volcanoes until 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, due to continued volcanic activities.

Notices to airmen (NOTAMs) were issued on Thursday morning, covering flights near Mayon, Kanlaon, and Taal volcanoes with vertical limits up to 11,000 feet.

A separate notice for Bulusan Volcano imposed a vertical limit of up to 10,000 feet from the ground.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported increased activity at Mayon in September, 72 volcanic earthquakes at Bulusan on Oct. 11, a minor phreatic eruption at Taal on Oct. 13, and 81 volcanic earthquakes at Kanlaon on Thursday morning.

All flight operators are strongly advised to avoid flying close to volcanic summits and to continuously monitor NOTAMs for updates.
