Szczerek, CEO of a landscape and paving company, was identified and heavily criticized online for his actions.

He explained his behavior as being 'caught up in the heat of the moment' and mistakenly believing the hat was meant for his sons.

Majchrzak later met with the young fan, giving him gifts including a similar cap.

Szczerek posted an apology on Facebook acknowledging his 'extremely poor judgment and hurtful actions.'
