BuCor confiscates over 3.6kg shabu, 60g cannabis in 3 years

Over the past three years, from October 2023 to the present, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has confiscated a total of 3,648.03 grams of shabu and 60.31 grams of cannabis from various prison facilities nationwide.

The New Bilibid Prison had the largest seizure, with 2,166.27 grams of shabu and 58.60 grams of cannabis.

Other penal farms that yielded illegal drugs include Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm, Leyte Regional Prison, Davao Prison and Penal Farm, and San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm.

No illegal substances were found in the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm or the Correctional Institution for Women.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. attributed the success to enhanced monitoring, strict inspection protocols, and the acquisition of two full-body scanners last year to detect contraband.

The agency plans to intensify its screening of visitors to further minimize the entry of contraband into prisons.
