The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) is investigating its personnel for allegedly allowing contraband into the New Bilibid Prison.
The confiscated contraband included knives, guns, cellphones, drugs, and approximately 7,500 cans of beer, which could be sold for P1,000 each inside.
BuCor officer-in-charge Gregorio Catapang Jr. revealed that inmates have identified personnel from both BuCor and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) as being involved in the smuggling.
Catapang stated that the names of the implicated personnel will be announced after verification and with clearance from Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
He clarified that these incidents occurred when the BJMP was still in charge of the Maximum Security Compound.
