BSP dismisses supervisors over ghost employees

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has formally dismissed two supervisors implicated in a "ghost employees" controversy.

These supervisors were involved in the falsification of attendance records for four employees, allowing them to receive salaries without reporting for work.

The involved employees were dismissed in July 2024.

The formal dismissal of the supervisors includes the forfeiture of their retirement benefits, cancellation of civil service eligibility, and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.

The scandal also led to the resignation of two former Monetary Board (MB) members in June 2024, with the Office of the President having jurisdiction over them.

To prevent future incidents, the BSP has reorganized its committee on ethics and decorum, which is now headed by a deputy governor instead of a director.
