Brunei donates 2,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses to PH

The Philippines received an initial donation of 2,000 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses from Brunei Darussalam on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

The vaccines arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 via Royal Brunei Airlines flight BI 683 and were welcomed by officials including Dr. Ted Herbosa, special adviser of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19, and Brunei Ambassador Johariah Wahab.

Dr. Herbosa clarified that these 2,000 doses are a portion of a larger committed donation from Brunei, with additional vaccines expected.

The donated AstraZeneca vaccines will be administered to the general population outside Metro Manila.

This donation comes as the Philippines is set to receive approximately two million doses of the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday and Friday.

As of Wednesday, the Philippines has received a total of 92.5 million vaccine doses, with 32 percent of the population fully vaccinated and 28 million having received their first dose.

Metro Manila has achieved high vaccination rates, with 80 percent fully vaccinated and 90 percent having at least one dose.
