BOC uncovers elaborate scheme to illegally import luxury cars

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has uncovered an elaborate scheme used to illegally import luxury vehicles belonging to contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya.

BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno revealed that these cars were imported without proper import entries and certificates of payment.

A Bugatti, for instance, was suspected to have entered the Batangas port, with its import entry later deleted from the IT system.

The scheme involved purchasing the certificate of payment from a different port, specifically Davao, to obstruct investigations.

Furthermore, x-ray images were tampered with to misrepresent the vehicles' true nature, leading to lower valuations and reduced tax payments.

Nepomuceno described this as a sophisticated method of defrauding the government.
