BOC suspends Makati Express Cargo Inc over failure to pay duties, taxes
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has suspended Makati Express Cargo Inc. (MECI) for 60 days due to unpaid taxes.
MECI failed to comply with a Show Cause Order issued on October 23, 2025, requiring them to settle duties and taxes within three days.
Numerous Balikbayan Box containers from MECI were reported unclaimed and unpaid at various ports, including Cebu, Manila International Container Port, and Davao.
Some of these containers had overstayed significantly and were declared abandoned.
The BOC stated its commitment to enforcing accountability and protecting the welfare of overseas Filipino workers.
The agency will also explore referring MECI to the Department of Trade and Industry for further action on its accreditation.
