BOC suspends Makati Express Cargo for 60 days over unpaid duties

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has suspended Makati Express Cargo Inc. (MECI) for 60 days for failing to comply with a show-cause order and settle outstanding duties and taxes.

This action stems from numerous unclaimed and unpaid Balikbayan Box containers from MECI at various ports, some of which were declared abandoned.

BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno reiterated the agency's commitment to ensuring that forwarding companies comply with customs laws and that OFWs can trust their shipments will reach their families safely.

The BOC is coordinating with the Department of Migrant Workers to ensure the affected Balikbayan boxes are accounted for and delivered to their intended recipients.
