BOC ready to expedite Covid-19 vaccine arrivals

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is prepared to expedite the release of incoming coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine shipments upon their arrival in the country.

Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero stated that one-stop shops have been activated at ports and pre-arrival clearance procedures will be implemented for swift processing.

While the exact arrival date of the vaccine shipments remains unknown, Guerrero confirmed that a simulation activity for vaccine arrival preparation was successful, with customs clearance being very fast.

BOC personnel are authorized to process release documents but are not permitted to physically handle the vaccines.

The first batch of vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca, through the COVAX Facility, is anticipated to arrive in mid-February.
