Customs finds P1.1 million in cash hidden in passenger’s luggage at NAIA
Bureau of Customs (BOC) operatives at NAIA intercepted Malaysian national Gan Kang Hsiung carrying P1.1 million in cash.
He arrived from Kota Kinabalu on AirAsia Flight No. Z2 502 on March 6 at around 9:00 p.m. at NAIA Terminal 3.
The undeclared cash was seized for violating the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and BSP Circular No. 922 s.2016 concerning cross-border currency transfers.
Under BSP regulations, carrying more than P50,000 in Philippine currency requires prior authorization from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
The passenger and his companions were observed acting suspiciously by a duty customs examiner, leading to the discovery of the money.
The confiscated money is currently under the custody of BOC NAIA.
