BOC finds unpaid duties on 28 luxury cars linked to Discaya family

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has found that most luxury cars linked to the Discaya family under its custody have unpaid duties and taxes.

A total of 28 luxury cars have been connected to the Discaya family, with 16 voluntarily surrendered and 12 previously seized by the BOC.

Customs Deputy Chief of Staff Chris Bendijo stated that doubtful import entries and lacking documents give a strong presumption of smuggling.

The BOC warned that the vehicles could be impounded if proven to have unpaid duties and taxes, but those with proper documentation could be released.

Further investigation will be conducted into how some luxury cars were released despite unpaid taxes and how they were registered with the Land Transportation Office.

BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno assured that the investigation will spare no one, and accountability will be pursued for any personnel involved in smuggling or the use of fake documents.
