BJMP isolates 21 PDLs amid suspected COVID-19 scare

Twenty-one persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) are currently in isolation within Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facilities due to a suspected COVID-19 scare.

BJMP spokesperson Jail Chief Inspector Xavier Solda confirmed that these 21 individuals have undergone testing and are awaiting their results.

As of now, the BJMP reports zero confirmed COVID-19 cases among its PDL population.

Solda attributed the absence of positive cases to the BJMP's proactive measures, including an early nationwide lockdown of its over 400 jail facilities.

The isolation of the 21 PDLs was a result of contact tracing efforts following the death of an inmate from Quezon City Jail.

This inmate, who died from acute myocardial infarction and hypertension, had a death certificate noting possible COVID-19 contribution.

The isolated individuals were identified as close contacts or group mates of the deceased inmate.
