BIR to probe Centerways Construction president over P30M donation to Chiz Escudero

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) will investigate the tax returns of Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development Inc., following his P30 million donation to Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero's 2022 senatorial campaign.

BIR Commissioner Charlito Mendoza stated that the agency will compare Lubiano's declared assets in his tax returns with the P30 million donation to ensure tax compliance.

Lubiano clarified that the P30 million donation was a personal contribution and not from his company.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) had previously cleared both Escudero and Lubiano, ruling that the donation did not violate the Omnibus Election Code because Lubiano and his firm are distinct entities.
