BIR suspends tax assessment notices nationwide

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has suspended the serving of deficiency tax assessment notices and seizure warrants nationwide.

This suspension will be resumed 60 days after the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) for Luzon is lifted.

The running of the Statute of Limitation for making assessments and beginning distraint and levy or court proceedings for collection of deficiency taxes is suspended.

BIR Chief Caesar R. Dulay cited the inability of BIR officials to prepare and serve necessary documents due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Previously, the BIR had already extended deadlines for filing income tax returns and other tax documents.

Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III urged taxpayers who are able to file and pay taxes to do so to help fund social protection measures.

Dominguez noted that forgone revenue could reach P286.4 billion to P318 billion, depending on the impact of COVID-19 on GDP.
