BIR extends tax deadlines in Cebu until Oct 31 due to earthquake

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has extended tax filing and payment deadlines until October 31, 2025, for taxpayers in Cebu affected by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

This extension covers taxpayers and BIR personnel in Mandaue City, Cebu City (North and South), Talisay City, and the Large Taxpayers Division in Cebu, including all deadlines within October 2025.

Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. stated the extension aims to provide sufficient time for compliance amidst the calamity and demonstrates the BIR's commitment to compassionate service.

The earthquake, originating tectonically with a depth of 5 kilometers, struck Bogo, Cebu, and is the strongest ever recorded in the area.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 72 deaths and 559 injured, with approximately 547,394 people or 155,094 families affected, though these figures are subject to validation.
