Bill proposes 30% discount for senior citizens with disabilities

A proposed bill seeks to grant a 30% discount to senior citizens who are also persons with disabilities (PWDs), an increase from the current combined 20% discount.

Filed by Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes, House Bill 5189 aims to provide additional financial relief to this specific group, acknowledging the challenges posed by inflation and other economic factors.

Individuals must present both their senior citizen and PWD identification cards to avail of the proposed 30% discount.

The bill defines disability as any significant physical or mental impairment affecting daily activities and a senior citizen as an individual aged 60 and above.

Ordanes emphasized that the proposed discount hike is necessary as elderly PWDs find it doubly hard to meet their needs and that the discount can be deducted from businesses' income tax.
