BI nabs Japanese national wanted for deportation at NAIA

Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers at NAIA intercepted a Japanese national, Makoto Shinoda, wanted for deportation.

Shinoda, 64, was apprehended on April 28 while attempting to board an Etihad Airways flight to Abu Dhabi.

He was flagged due to a derogatory record indicating he was on the bureau's watchlist for deportation.

Shinoda was confirmed to be the same individual on the watchlist order and was subsequently transferred to the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

He will remain in detention while awaiting the outcome of deportation proceedings against him.

Shinoda is accused by two Japanese nationals of defrauding them of over US$1 million in a fake real estate venture.

BI commissioner Atty. Joel Anthony Viado commended the immigration officers' attentiveness for stopping a foreign national facing serious charges from leaving the country.
