BI rescues 8th victim of surrogacy trafficking at NAIA

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) apprehended an eighth victim of trafficking for surrogacy abroad last October 15 at NAIA Terminal 3.

The 37-year-old woman was intercepted while attempting to board a Turkish Airlines flight to Batumi, Georgia.

She initially claimed to be traveling for business but confessed to being recruited as a surrogate mother.

The victim was promised a monthly stipend of PHP28,000 during pregnancy and over PHP500,000 after childbirth.

Her recruiters also offered to cover medical treatments, travel costs, and other benefits.

The BI has referred the case to the inter-agency council against trafficking.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado expressed alarm over the rising cases of trafficking for illegal surrogacy.
