BI expects 20,000 foreigners to leave PH due to POGO ban

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) anticipates that approximately 20,000 foreigners will depart the Philippines by the end of the year due to the nationwide ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

An estimated 75% to 80% of these departing individuals are expected to be Chinese nationals.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the prohibition of all POGO operations in the country, and the BI has no provisions for exceptions to the departure requirement.

However, owners and workers of POGOs who do not wind down their operations and remain in the Philippines beyond December 31, 2024, will face deportation.

Thirty-three employees of raided POGO hubs in Bamban, Tarlac and Pasay City were deported to China on Thursday for being undesirable aliens due to a lack of permits and visas.

These deported workers will also face charges of engaging in illegal gambling in China, as they will be treated as criminal suspects.
