Gov't allots P2.5B for new floating assets in WPS

The Philippine government is allocating P2.5 billion to acquire new floating assets, including monitoring control and surveillance patrol vessels and food boats, to enhance its presence and support fishermen in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

BFAR spokesperson Nazario Briguera stated that these assets aim to provide a platform for the government to deliver aid and assert its presence in the WPS.

Additionally, BFAR has an ongoing project called 'LAYAG WPS' which aims to provide livelihood opportunities to fisherfolk in the region.

Approximately 90 percent of the 385,300 fisherfolk in the WPS vicinity have benefitted from the LAYAG WPS project.

These beneficiaries hail from regions such as MIMAROPA, Region I, Region III, and the National Capital Region, which are near the WPS.
