BFAR reports red tide in 3 Eastern Visayas bays beyond safe limit

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has reported that three bays in Eastern Visayas are still experiencing red tide beyond the safe regulatory limit.

Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar has tested positive for red tide in both shellfish and seawater samples.

Local red tide warnings have also been issued for Cancabato Bay in Tacloban City and Irong-irong Bay in Catbalogan City, Samar, based on toxic seawater samples.

The public is strongly advised against collecting, selling, or consuming any shellfish, including small shrimp, from these affected bays.

However, fish, squid, shrimp, and crabs are deemed safe for consumption if fresh, thoroughly washed, and with internal organs removed before cooking.
