BCDA assures no garbage crisis in Central Luzon post-Kalangitan landfill closure

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) assures that Central Luzon will not face a garbage crisis despite the upcoming closure of the Kalangitan sanitary landfill in Capas, Tarlac.

The 25-year contract between Metro Clark Waste Management Corporation (MCWMC) and Clark Development Corporation (CDC) for the landfill expires on October 9, 2024.

BCDA Chairman Delfin Lorenzana stated that three operational facilities in Pampanga can serve as alternative waste management sites.

These alternatives include a sanitary landfill operated by Eco Protect Management Corp. (2,500 MT/day capacity) and another by Florida Blanca Enviro Park Project Corp. (3,500 MT/day capacity).

Additionally, a materials recovery facility by Prime Integrated Waste Solutions Inc. can process 5,000 MT/day.

The BCDA has informed the CDC that the landfill will be closed on October 9 with no possibility of extensions.
