Bayan Muna chairman asks Meralco to waive March bills

Bayan Muna chairman Neri Colmenares urged Meralco to waive this month's electricity bills for consumers, suggesting they use the P30 billion refund as payment.

Colmenares made this appeal recognizing the financial hardship faced by millions of workers, particularly those under 'no work, no pay' policies, who are mandated to stay home during the enhanced community quarantine.

He pointed out that other public utility operators, such as Manila Water and Maynilad, have already deferred their bill collections for a month.

Colmenares highlighted Meralco's obligation to refund approximately P29.6 billion to consumers for over-recovery of annual distribution charges from 2013 to 2018.

He expressed hope that Meralco will consider the plight of Filipinos unable to work due to the COVID-19 pandemic and be compassionate.
