COVID-19 vaccination in BARMM is local leaders' responsibility, says Palace
Acting Presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles stated that leaders in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) must intensify efforts to convince their constituents to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
This call comes after President Rodrigo Duterte noted that many Muslims in Mindanao are hesitant due to religious or cultural reasons.
As of January 24, only 475,636 individuals in BARMM were fully vaccinated, highlighting a slow vaccination rate in the region.
Nograles emphasized the importance of local leaders setting examples and actively driving demand for increased vaccination in BARMM.
He also reiterated that leaders should stress that COVID-19 vaccines are Halal-certified and are being used in other predominantly Muslim countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
