Barangay Ginebra to face San Miguel in PBA semis after beating Converge

Barangay Ginebra defeated Converge 88-80 in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals, advancing to face San Miguel in the semifinals.

RJ Abarrientos topscored with 21 points, while Japeth Aguilar earned Best Player of the Game honors with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds, along with three blocks.

The Gin Kings ensured they would need only one game to finish off the FiberXers and secure a place in the Final Four.

Earlier, San Miguel dethroned Meralco 108-97 to become the first team to secure a semifinals berth.

This will be a rematch of their semifinals encounter in the season-opening PBA Governors' Cup, where Ginebra beat San Miguel in six games.

Coach Tim Cone emphasized the necessity of overcoming San Miguel, stating that teams must go through them to win a championship.

Game 1 of their best-of-seven semifinals series is set for Wednesday.
