Baguio City records 11 days of zero COVID-19 cases

Baguio City has not recorded any new cases of COVID-19 for 11 consecutive days, indicating success in their efforts to "flatten the curve" and contain the virus.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong emphasized the importance of sustained vigilance and avoiding complacency despite the positive trend, noting that the city is effectively implementing containment and control measures.

The city continues to enforce strict border controls, a 24-hour curfew, and mandates the wearing of masks and social distancing.

Mass testing of Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) and selected Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs) is ongoing, enhanced by advanced contact tracing techniques.

The success in maintaining zero new cases is attributed to the strong collaboration between the city government, national agencies like the Department of Health Cordillera, the Inter-Agency Task Force, and the private sector.

Early imposition of preventive measures, including public health etiquette, cancellation of large events, closure of borders, and the use of technology, contributed significantly to the city's initial gains.

Baguio City has also implemented "out-of-the-box" solutions such as early mask mandates and the disclosure of patient identities to facilitate faster detection and prevent further transmission.

The city is conducting rapid testing for health workers and PUIs with mild symptoms, with positive results leading to PCR confirmatory tests and isolation.

Class suspensions have been extended until the end of May for all levels, following a meeting with representatives from the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education.
