Arellano U stuns defending champ San Beda in NCAA basketball

Arellano University secured a significant 72-70 upset victory against reigning champion San Beda University in the NCAA Season 100 men's basketball tournament.

This win strengthens Arellano's push for a semifinal spot and ties them with San Sebastian College-Recoletos at a 2-5 win-loss record.

Renz Capulong and T-Mc Ongotan led Arellano's scoring effort with 14 points each, while Ernest Geronimo and Renzo Abiera added 12 and nine points, respectively.

Arellano staged an 11-to-3 run in the fourth quarter, taking a 72-67 lead with 43 seconds left after crucial plays from Capulong and Abiera.

Jomel Puno led San Beda with 20 points, but their efforts were hampered by 12 turnovers that led to 16 fastbreak points for Arellano.

Despite a late three-pointer from Yuki Andrada that narrowed the gap to 72-70, James Payosing missed a potential game-tying shot for San Beda.
