Angara denies father involved in budget insertion allegations

Education Secretary Sonny Angara strongly refuted allegations that his late father, former Senate President Edgardo Angara, was part of a group called the "Angara 5" that supposedly facilitated budget insertions for kickbacks.

Angara criticized the claims as baseless and a "demolition job" that unfairly involves the deceased, stating that the dead cannot defend themselves.

The alleged network reportedly includes DICT Usec. Faye Condez De Sagon, former DepEd Usec. Trygve Olaivar, former Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, DBM Usec. Wilford Wong, and Ronald Ang.

Angara emphasized the lack of a coherent connection among those named, noting that only Olaivar had previously worked under the Department of Education.

The allegations attempted to link this supposed network to the tenure of the late Senator Angara.
