Education Sec. Angara visits Las Piñas schools to assess learning recovery programs

Education Secretary Sonny Angara visited Las Piñas public schools, Moonwalk Elementary School and Talon Elementary School, to assess learning recovery programs like the School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) and the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) initiative.

These schools were recognized for their achievements in literacy, feeding services, and academic recovery.

Angara's visit supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to accelerate reading recovery and enhance support for students facing learning difficulties.

Moonwalk Elementary School, with nearly 800 feeding beneficiaries, integrated a reading initiative into its ARAL tutorials launched in September.

Teachers at Moonwalk ES noted that pairing feeding with tutorials improved attendance and reading stamina for vulnerable learners, facilitated by a 1:11 tutor-learner ratio.

Talon Elementary School, the division's top performer in the Las Piñas National Achievement Test, reported that 71 percent of its 575 initial ARAL learners reached grade-level reading benchmarks.

Talon's gains were credited to structured ARAL sessions, consistent progress monitoring, and dedicated learning spaces that support uninterrupted literacy work.
