Angara asks private sector to help bridge skills gap

Education Secretary Sonny Angara urged the private sector, especially the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AmCham), to strengthen its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) to bridge the gap between academic learning and the skills required in the workplace.

Angara emphasized the need for companies to actively engage in refining DepEd's curriculum, broadening opportunities for work immersion, and developing programs that align with current industry demands.

He stressed that the private sector's insights are crucial in anticipating the future needs of the workforce and creating pathways for students to pursue their aspirations.

The Secretary highlighted that while DepEd is implementing reforms, these efforts will be more effective with the direct involvement and participation of various industries.

Angara pointed to existing collaborations with TESDA, UNICEF, and private companies as examples of how multi-sectoral engagement can significantly improve the quality of education.
