Alex Eala, Bryan Bagunas lead PH delegation in 33rd SEA Games opening

Tennis star Alex Eala and volleyball standout Bryan Bagunas carried the Philippine flag during the opening ceremony of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Eala, who became the youngest Filipina athlete to be a flag bearer in the SEA Games, described the experience as 'surreal' and an 'honor of a lifetime.'

She wore a 'Laro ng Lahi' barong tagalog designed by Avel Bacudio.

Her father, Mike Eala, expressed his happiness, calling it a dream come true for his daughter to carry the national colors.

The Philippine tennis team believes Eala's presence boosts their morale as they aim for a significant medal haul.

Bagunas is also eager to contribute to the success of the Philippine men's volleyball team, Alas Pilipinas Men.

The SEA Games officially commenced with an opening ceremony led by King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand and will conclude on December 20.

Tight security measures during the event limited the participation of other Filipino athletes in the parade.

As of Thursday, December 11, the Philippines has secured 13 medals in the biennial meet, including 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 9 bronzes.
