Albay women donate kamote to Taal evacuees

A women's organization from Guinobatan, Albay, composed of ordinary housewives who formed groups to engage in camote planting for additional income, is donating "kamote" or sweet potatoes to residents affected by the Taal Volcano eruption.

Organized as the Women for Progress Movement in Barangay Muladbucad, they are coordinating with Albay 3rd District Representative Fernando Cabredo and agencies in Batangas for the distribution of the kamote to families housed in evacuation centers.

They plan to harvest pechay to provide fresh vegetables to the evacuees.

Representative Cabredo noted that the kamote donation is considered more nutritious than canned goods or noodles for the evacuees.

The women planters from Albay, who have experienced their own natural disasters, aim to bring hope and courage to those displaced by the Taal Volcano eruption.

They harvested 30 sacks of kamote and planned to deliver them to evacuees in Agoncillo, Batangas, on Wednesday, January 29, even as Phivolcs downgraded the volcano's alert level.
