Akbayan urges Marcos Jr. to prioritize P200 wage hike bill

Akbayan, a progressive partylist, urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to include a proposed P200 legislated wage hike in his priority bills for the remainder of his term.

The call comes ahead of Marcos' fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28, which marks his mid-term.

Akbayan Representative Peri Cendaña stated that the current wage increases provided by wage boards are insufficient and that workers are suffering from the rising cost of living.

A recent Pulse Asia survey revealed that 66 percent of adult respondents disapprove of the government's management of inflation.

Inflation slightly increased to 1.4 percent last month, driven by the high costs of housing, utilities, and fuel.

The same survey indicated that 48 percent of respondents disapprove of the administration's handling of workers' wages, which has become the fastest-rising national concern for Filipinos.
