AFP on red alert due to planned protests

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has been on red alert since Friday, September 12, 2025, in anticipation of potential disruptions from various protests against alleged corruption.

AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla confirmed the status, emphasizing it is a standard security protocol to ensure readiness and support the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The red alert requires personnel to be on standby with leaves on hold.

Padilla reassured the public that there is no cause for worry regarding this security measure.

Several protests against alleged anomalies in flood control projects have occurred, and more are scheduled, including a large demonstration on September 21 at Luneta Park and transport strikes from September 17-19 by Manibela and on September 18 by Piston.

The AFP respects the right to peaceful assembly but will not permit violence or instability.
