AFP monitored 11,287 vessels in PH waters in Feb

A total of 11,287 vessels were monitored within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone in February 2025, according to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Of the total, 9,255 were foreign vessels and 2,032 were domestic ships.

Specifically, nine People's Liberation Army (PLA)-Navy and two China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels were sighted near Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal).

Seven PLA-Navy and one CCG vessel were observed in Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal, while no Chinese vessels were detected near Sabina (Escoda) Shoal.

The AFP stated they are dedicated to addressing challenges and anticipating threats to ensure regional stability and defend Philippine maritime interests.

The number of monitored vessels is fairly constant compared to January, and includes merchant vessels from various countries, with Chinese vessels forming a small portion.
