AFP Chief Gen. Santos tests positive for COVID-19

Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

Santos' positive result was released on Thursday, and Lorenzana was informed on Friday morning.

The AFP chief was tested on March 23, days after a military official and his wife also tested positive.

Santos had close contact with the previously infected official during a military conference and a promotion ceremony.

He will undergo strict home quarantine until April 10 in his military quarters, where he will continue his duties remotely.

Vice Admiral Gaudencio Collado Jr. will assist with operational activities, while Lt. Gen. Erickson Gloria will handle administrative matters.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is also undergoing a 14-day self-quarantine after having close contact with Santos on two occasions, including a turnover of medical supplies and a meeting at Malacañang.

Lorenzana chairs the government's national action plan for COVID-19 measures.
