Actress and humanitarian Rosa Rosal dies at 97

Veteran Filipina actress and humanitarian Rosa Rosal passed away at 97 on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) announced her passing, highlighting her over seven decades of service and advocacy for voluntary blood donation.

PRC chairman Dick Gordon remembered her as a devoted volunteer whose life was defined by compassion and unwavering service.

Born Florence Lansang Danon on October 16, 1928, Rosal rose to prominence during the Golden Age of Philippine cinema, starring in multiple hits in the late 1950s, including Anak Dalita (1956), Badjao (1957), and Biyaya ng Lupa (1959).

She took her place in the Red Cross board of governors in 1965 after joining the humanitarian organization in 1950 as a volunteer-member of the Blood Program.

Through her tireless advocacy, she helped create a national consciousness for voluntary blood donation, inspiring countless Filipinos to give the gift of life.
