90M Filipinos to be vaccinated by June, govt to procure more doses

Around 90 million Filipinos are targeted to be inoculated against COVID-19 by the end of the second quarter of 2022 or in June.

This new objective includes administering primary vaccine series to 28 to 30 million individuals.

The target was set after the National Task Force (NTF) fell short of its 2021 goal to fully vaccinate 54 million Filipinos.

The government plans to acquire an additional 70 million doses for booster shots and 26 million doses for children aged 5 to 11.

As of Monday, January 10, the Philippines has already vaccinated 52 million Filipinos with their primary series.

Currently, the Philippines has a stockpile of 100 million vaccine doses.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. cautioned that the recent surge in COVID-19 cases poses a significant obstacle to vaccination efforts.
