PCG rescues 85 passengers from grounded MV Filipinas Cebu

Eighty-five persons, including five infants, were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after their vessel, MV Filipinas Cebu, ran aground off Maigo Point, Lanao del Norte on Thursday evening.

The PCG deployed a search and rescue team and its Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU) to respond to the incident.

The passengers were transferred to the Tugboat Foscon Diamond for their safety.

MV Filipinas Cebu was en route to Ozamiz City from Lanao del Norte when the grounding occurred around 6 p.m.

Although no oil spill was detected, the PCG installed oil spill booms as a precautionary measure.

This is not the first time MV Filipinas Cebu has run aground, with a previous incident occurring in Iloilo last year.
