8 CIW inmates recover from COVID-19

Eight inmates from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) have recovered from COVID-19 after testing negative using both PCR-based and rapid tests.

They were previously transferred to Site Harry, a quarantine facility at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), after testing positive.

Dr. Henry Fabro, chief of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Health Service, confirmed the recovered inmates will be returned to CIW and placed in a recovery isolation area.

Before rejoining the general inmate population, they will undergo another Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test.

The BuCor has recorded 117 confirmed COVID-19 cases among its inmates, with 77 from CIW and 40 from Bilibid.

Three CIW inmates and one from Bilibid have died from the virus, and another inmate apart from the eight has also recovered.
