78 BI employees test positive for COVID-19

A total of 78 Bureau of Immigration (BI) employees have tested positive for COVID-19, with most experiencing no or mild symptoms.

Out of the 78 infected employees, 29 have recovered and only one required hospitalization.

The BI reported that 44 infected employees are currently in quarantine facilities due to having no or mild symptoms.

Additionally, 76 other employees were placed under home quarantine after being exposed to infected individuals.

Of those in home quarantine due to exposure, 58 have been cleared to return to work.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente expressed gratitude that no BI employees have died from the virus.

The BI has implemented strict health protocols, including mandatory face shields and masks, regular disinfection of its main office, and a suspension of walk-in transactions to manage the situation.
