Trailer truck crash in Marikina kills 3, injures 10

Three people died and 10 others were injured after a trailer truck collided with five vehicles along Fortune Avenue in Marikina City on Wednesday night.

The incident involved a 40-foot container truck, two jeepneys, a compact car, a sport utility vehicle, and a sedan.

The trailer truck driver, Gabriel Almeda, 54, told police that he lost control of the truck after the brakes malfunctioned while traversing an inclined slope.

The overturned truck crushed several vehicles, including one of the jeepneys.

A jeepney driver, a woman, and her child were among the fatalities.

One of the injured was a woman who was pinned inside a jeepney and was extricated after several hours.

Almeda, who is in police custody, faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.

The vehicles involved were removed from the scene by yesterday morning.
