Five individuals have been charged with violating Republic Act No. 9165 for their alleged roles in importing approximately P2.7 billion worth of illegal drugs into the Philippines.

The arrested suspects include consignee Oscar Berba of Red Shinting Consumer Goods Trading, Ark Global Movers chairman Karen Villaflor and president Rey Gujilde, and customs brokers Kevin Lee Arrio and Richard Aguantar.

The NBI announced the seizure of over 404 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, with an estimated street value of P2.7 billion.

The shipment, originating from Pakistan, arrived at the Port of Manila on January 23 and was intercepted in a joint operation by the NBI, Bureau of Customs, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Department of Justice.
