Typhoons Nika, Ofel, Pepito displace over 685k Filipinos

Tropical cyclones Nika, Ofel, and Pepito have displaced 685,071 individuals across several regions in the Philippines.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that 695,108 people preemptively left their homes to seek refuge in safer locations, with at least six in 10 finding shelter in evacuation centers.

A total of 2,717 evacuation centers were used in response to Typhoons Nika, Ofel and Pepito, nearly five times more than the 566 centers utilized during Typhoons Kristine and Leon.

The NDRRMC has not reported any deaths or missing persons yet, only 11 individuals injured, however, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos has confirmed one fatality due to Typhoon Pepito.

The cyclones caused significant damage to infrastructure amounting to P469.8 million and P8.6 million in agricultural losses.

Additionally, 7,401 houses sustained partial damage and 437 were totally destroyed, with 34 roads and 24 bridges becoming impassable.

Eleven cities and municipalities were declared under a state of calamity, and classes were suspended in 690 cities and municipalities.

P49.1 million in aid has been distributed to affected families.
