3 Chinese nationals arrested in Tawi-Tawi for overstaying and illegal departure

Three Chinese nationals were intercepted in separate operations in Tawi-Tawi while attempting to leave the country through unauthorized routes, as reported by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

Authorities apprehended Zhang Xiaofeng and Guo Jinxia at Mapun Port, while Zhong Xiongwei was arrested by the PNP Maritime Group at a different port.

The BI confirmed all three individuals were overstaying in the Philippines and have been placed under arrest.

They were initially detained in Tawi-Tawi before being transferred to the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig, for deportation proceedings.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado stated the BI is coordinating with local police and maritime units to address foreign nationals using southern sea routes for illegal entry or exit.

Officials noted that parts of Tawi-Tawi are vulnerable points for cross-border movement due to their proximity to Malaysia, underscoring continued efforts to secure coastal areas.
